Chalfont St Giles library gets a major boost

Posted by Emma Lindsey on Jul 25, 08 11:47 AM in Local Authority

The community library in Chalfont St Giles is expanding its service thanks to a new county library computer system which means it is now able to offer an improved web service.

Users can now reserve county library books via the Internet from home and collect them from the village library. Once the book arrives in the library, an e-mail can be sent to alert the reader to its arrival.

E-mail notification of new books added to the county catalogue are also possible. Readers are able to set up a request online for the specific book.

The library expects to put 500 new adult fiction books onto the shelves over the next few weeks. They are also buying the top ten paperbacks each month, which are available on a two-week loan as they very popular.

The library also stocks a range of new children's books ready for the summer holidays. These include books by Jacqueline Wilson, Anne Fine, Gillian Cross, Dick King-Smith, Lauren Child, Phillip Pullman, Enid Blyton and Erin Hunter. We also have some great series including: Captain Underpants, Spiderwick Chronicles, Dr Who Adventures, Indiana Jones and High School Musical.

The selection will soon include a selection of locally purchased children's DVDs (U category only). These are suitable for children under 12 years of age.

For adult DVDs you will still have to visit a County library or visit Gordon Patrick's (the Old Post Office) as the county does not permit the community library to lend out or return any County DVDs or videos.
