Six cars in different locations in Chalfont St Giles and Chalfont St Peter had their windscreens broken during the weekend (July 19 and 20).

PC Jim Clarke of Chalfont St Peter police office confirmed that on Sunday and Monday mornings, six people in the two villages woke up to find that their car windscreens had been broken but that nothing taken from their cars.

Jim Castle, 85, of Pennington Road, Chalfont St Peter, found the windscreen of his 1991 Ford Fiesta badly smashed.

He said: "My car was in good condition, it is my pride and joy and had recently been serviced.

"I could hardly see out of the windscreen after the damage and it was very inconvenient for me to ring the insurance company and wait for the garage to come and replace it.

"I live alone and am not in the best of health, this is very hard for someone of my age to deal with. It's sickening and worrying."

Chris Summers, 25, of Eleanor Road, Chalfont St Peter, confirmed that his car windscreen had been broken some time during Saturday night. He said: "They aimed for the tax disc holder and had obviously done it with some force. I assume they used a crow bar or a hammer."

Mr Summers, who works as a customer account manger, said that because he uses his car for his job, it had been 'a bit of a pain' for him to take Monday morning off while the repair was being carried out.

PC Clarke said police were appealing for witnesses.

He said: "Someone's been doing this for a lark. I think it's a case of two or three lads in a car thinking: 'Let's do this'.

We'd like to hear from you.
