Last chance to book a stall at village's show

Time is running out to book a stall for the Chalfont St Giles village show, which takes place in Stone Meadow on September 6.

Stalls, price £50, should be booked in advance and can be secured for a £5 discount if booked before August 1.

Lisa Webster, show committee member, said: "You need to book the date in your diary, get a copy of the show programme, which is available now from several shops in the village and book a stall if you're interested.

"You can sell almost anything, as long as it's not dodgy."

This year's show, which, in a nod towards the writings of poet John Milton, takes paradise as its theme, promises many of the features that made previous shows a success, plus several new attractions.

Among the new attractions are a five-kilometre run for the over-12s, which will take participants cross country towards Amersham.

Mrs Webster said: "It's a lovely route, challenging and hilly, but fun."

Those aged over 16 can take part in the 10km run, which was intro

duced into the show in 1993 and has since become something of an institution. Mrs Webster said the show, which last year raised more than £7,000 for local causes, promises to be fantastic.

She added that while last year's animal show was limited by the foot-and-mouth scare, this year will see plenty of rare breeds on display.

She said children in particular were fascinated by the reptiles and the falconry, both of which will be present this year. Those hoping to get fit might enjoy learning a new dance routine from the Popstars dance academy or could even try belly dancing, courtesy of the Tina Louise School of Egyptian Belly Dancers.

The show's competitions are open to anyone living within a 10-mile radius of Chalfont St Giles and range from growing a runner bean in a glass, to cake and jam making or crafts and floral displays.

Mrs Webster said: "There's something for everyone.

"If Channel 5 reckons we are the best village in the country, this year's show will prove it." [25a0] Stalls can be booked through Steve Pendray on 01494 875 355. For further details about the show and how to enter the competitions, log on to www.csgshow.org
