Home extension is crazy says irate neighbour

A homeowner has slammed Chiltern District Council for allowing his neighbour to build an extension which he claims is ruining the look of his entire street.

Retired floor layer Keith Ayer, 59, of Narcot Lane, Chalfont St Giles, has accused council officers of not following planning guidelines by granting the development planning permission.
All of the homes on Narcot Lane are built using dark red brickwork but the extension being built next door to Mr Ayer's home is being built with light yellow bricks - with the council's blessing.

Mr Ayer, who has lived in his home for 35 years, said: "There are lots of houses in this street which have had extensions done but, because they have used the same brickwork as all the other houses, you do not even notice them.
"But this one next to my house is outrageous. It is completely out of character with the rest of the street. It seems totally crazy that the council have let this pass.

"It concerns me and makes we wonder just how slack they are getting. If they are letting something like this happen then what else are they passing.
"This is going to make the whole street look horrible and it has really upset me and my wife."

Chiltern District Council have justified their decision to grant the extension permission by saying that over time the bricks will change colour and match all the other homes.

In a letter to Mr Ayer, CDC planning enforcement officer Ben Robinson, said: "The council acknowledge that the bricks don't provide a good match.
"The likelihood is that the impact of the bricks will soften over time with rain and weather conditions and the existing roof tile will match the rest of the street."
