WITH the laces firmly tied on their sturdy shoes a group of walkers marched out of Chalfont St Giles in a bid to keep fit and learn all about their local countryside.
For six years Buckinghamshire County Council has been running their Simply Walk scheme in Amersham, Great Missenden, Chalfont St Peter and Chesham alongside Buckinghamshire Primary Care Trust, and disrict councils.
The scheme sees trained volunteers leading groups of walkers around the respective areas and on Wednesday last week (August 20), a new route in Chalfont St Giles, was launched.

TO celebrate the event, run also by the village 65+ Club, dozens of walkers set off from the village green on a one hour trek.
Karoline Lamb, of the 65+ Club said: "This is a really great programme and everyone should really enjoy taking part in it.
"People these days do not walk enough or get enough exercise and something like this can be perfect for people who want to get out and about, meet new people, and keep fit.
"Also we are surrounded by the most beautiful scenery, wildlife and nature, and it is a great way to take all of that in."
Fiona Broadbent, Simply Walk coordinator, said: "Simply Walk gives people the opportunity to improve their health in their local community, get some fresh air and meet new friends. And it is all free!"
The walks will be taking place every Wednesday from 10am on the village green and anyone who wants to take part can just turn up on the day and are advised to be wearing comfortable shoes, waterproofs, drinking water, and a walking stick if needed.
More 500 walkers stride out each week in the Simply Walk programme in a total of 43 walks across Buckinghamshire.
