Chiltern Open Air Museum host knitting marathon
There was a knitting marathon to make sure a shire horse stays warm for the winter.
Sovereign dropped his normal leather reins and spruced himself up with a new colourful set.
Visitors to the Chiltern Open Air Museum on October 18 and 19 took part in a knitting marathon to make 36 feet of new driving reins.
Head Horseman and owner of Sovereign, Robert Mackenzie, tried out the new reins when he gave visitors a carriage ride around the museum.
"The new reins offer dual control so that our younger visitors can feel involved in driving the horse. Our visitors love Sovereign and the new reins certainly add to his popularity," said Mr Mackenzie.
Sovereign will also be putting in a ghostly appearance at the museumÕs Halloween Spectacular Event on October 31 from 6Ð9pm. This last event of the year is extremely popular includes the wonderful spooky woodland walk, story telling in the Iron Age House and lots of spooky activities such as apple goblins, bat kites and wand making. Special admission prices apply and visitors can purchase tickets in advance. Visit www.coam.org.uk or ring 01494 871117 for details.
