Learning about life 'Down Under'

Posted by Graham Spence on Oct 27, 08 11:47 AM in Schools/colleges

Children at Chalfont St Peter Church of England school learned all about life Down Under for their art week.

All last week, pupils at the school in Penn Road learned all about aspects of life in Australia, including, music, arts, drama and food.

Children were taught how to play the digeridoo by visiting musicians, painted large aboriginal canvas pictures, made Australian lamington cakes and took part in Australian drama and dance exercises.

Brenda Meek, arts co-ordinator at the school, said: "The children have had a fantastic week, immersing themselves in Australian culture and art. The week has enhanced their learning in so many ways as well as allowing them to be creative and have a great deal of fun."

The event follows shortly after the school was given an International School award.

Mrs Meek added: "All the staff have worked exceptionally hard to make this a highly memorable week for the children."

We'd like to hear from you.
