New chef to take up White Hart mantle
A Michelin chef has been recruited by the new landlord at the White Hart hotel and restaurant in Chalfont St Giles.
Steve Dowell, who previously worked at the Box Tree in Oakley, Yorkshire and Tante Claire restaurant in London, is joining the existing kitchen team as head chef at the White Hart, which last week was taken over by restaurateur and hotelier Salvatore Fernandez,
Mr Fernandez, who is originally from Italy, has worked as general manager for the Trusthouse Forte, Hilton and Marriott hotel chains and used to own Slice, an Italian restaurant in Bray near Windsor.
He said: "I intend to build on the White Hart's strong food reputation and create a synergy between the existing staff members and the new head chef."
He added that the previous chef-proprietor Scott McRae had established the restaurant's name for modern European cuisine and had made it the restaurant of choice for local chefs from other establishments when they had a day off, but that he believes that a good hotel and restaurant needs the two roles to be kept separate.
Mr Salvatore said that he plans to make a few changes to the White Hart over the coming months and that he looks forward to building links with the local community.
