House swap anyone?
Four families have given the Chalfont St Giles property market a welcome boost and saved themselves money and stress by swapping houses.
Melissa and James Dickinson moved last month from Albion Road to a property in Back Lane, exchanging houses with Frances and Alan Hawkins.
The Dickinsons wanted a larger house for their three children, while Mr and Mrs Hawkins wanted to downsize now their children have left home.
"We probably saved ourselves thousands of pound's in agent's fees and most importantly, it took away all the stress because we weren't worried about the chain collapsing," said Mrs Dickinson, who runs Over the Rainbow children's singing classes in the village.
"House swapping needs some luck and you've got to be bold to approach people, but it's lovely to sell to someone you've built up a relationship with."
Frances Hawins said: "It's great to be able to visit each other a lot before you move and to exchange household items too. I would recommend it."
For another couple house-swapping proved the only way to complete their move before the birth of their first baby.
Rich and Jo Saunders were interested in a house in Albion Crescent and when the vendors realised that the Saunders' house on White Lion Road, Amersham, was just what they were looking for, a deal was struck.
The two couples swapped houses in July and the Saunders were able to complete their renovation of their new property before the arrival of their first baby, Guy, born on November 9.
"We saved ourselves a lot of money and stress but most importantly, the move just wouldn't have happened without the swap," said Mr Rich.
Kit Rose, branch manager at Bramptons estate agency, acted for the Hawkins and for the vendors in Albion Crescent.
He said: " People often don't want to view a property until they get interest in theirs, but there are people out there who might have a house that you want. House swapping is a way of getting movement in the market."
