Flexmore Farm sausages win national award
Sausages made on Flexmore Farm have won 1st and 2nd prizes in the British Pig Association pedigree national sausage championship, held on December 6 by the Royal Smithfield Christmas Show in Shepton Mallet.
Vicky and Stephen Hinds, who make the sausages from their own rare breed Berkshire pigs, said they were "totally surprised and delighted" when they heard by phone that they had won two such prestigious accolades.
The Hinds' pork, chilli and fresh coriander sausage won 1st prize in the speciality sausage category, as well as the prize for the overall national champion; and their gluten-free sausage, made with pork and sage, was runner-up in the breakfast sausage category.
Stephen Hinds said: "Our pigs are bred on the farm and kept in the woods where they are free-ranging and happy in their natural habitat."
Mr Hinds added that the kudos of winning was more important than the small cash prize.
Sausages can be bought on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm - 7pm when Flexmore Farm (Tel 01494 874826) re-opens after Christmas on January 7.
