Al Fresco lessons for St Giles youngsters
Pupils from Chalfont St Giles nursery and infant school had their lessons 'al fresco' at a special Forest School.
The school has been by the Chiltern Open Air Museum (COAM) and the Hawk and Owl Trust and pupils got the chance to visit on Tuesday.
COAM education officer Melissa Maynard said the Forest School is now in its fifth year and currently runs weekly classes for the Chalfont St Giles infant school pupils.
She said: "We encourage the children to explore the outdoor environment through play. They gain self-esteem and confidence in learning and have immense fun. They also get very muddy."
The children learn about fire safety by sitting round an open fire and play a version of hide-and-seek containing instructions on what to do if they are out walking and get separated.
They also go on 'mini-beast hunts' for worms, beatles, spiders and snails.
Gill Brown, nursery teacher at the school, said: "The children think it's absolutely superb, it's a wonderful outdoor environment. The children learn maths by counting the mini beasts they find and are encouraged to talk about what they find."
