Campaign to change dangerous car park
A series of dangerous 'near misses' have prompted Chalfont St Giles parish council to campaign for the the entrance and exits of a car park to be swapped.
The parish council feels that if the entrance and exit of Blizzards Yard car park were swapped, vehicle access and visibility can be improved.
It is particularly concerned that lorries using the car park to make deliveries to the Co-Op and library pose a danger to other drivers and pedestrians.
Councillor Gordon Patrick, who runs the Olde Post House on the High Street, explained that the present lay-out offers poor visibility to car park users.
He said: "Big lorries can't get in at the entrance end and it is dangerous when leaving the car park.
"There have been several near misses and two people were nearly flattened by big lorries delivering to the Co-op."
Mr Patrick said that parish council has discussed the matter with the police and has asked Chiltern District Council (CDC), which owns the car park, to look at the problem.
He added: "We are asking CDC to look at it again, from the point of view of the shopkeepers and for safety.
"I don't want to see a child flattened in this village."
Andy Clarke, parking manager for CDC said: "No formal request has yet been received from the parish council but we will consider the matter when a request is received."
Mr Clarke added that CDC will work with Bucks County Council Transportation on the matter.

A very good idea. You take your life into to your hands trying to turn right out of the exit.
The problem would also be lessened if people stopped parking on the double yellow lines out side the Olde Post House.
The worst instance of this that I ever witnessed was when Cheryl Gillan parked her campaign vehicle right on those double yellow lines and stood on a trailer at the back delivering her message.
This caused me great problems in turning right out of the car park in my mini.
Road markings are there for a reason!
