Vicar to shave head for charity

Posted by Greg Burns on Jan 20, 09 04:01 PM in Good Causes

People have been known to do some wacky things in the name of religion and the Reverend Ian Thorpe is no exception.
The pastor of the Rock Church in Chalfont St Giles has agreed to have his head shaved for charity during a Sunday service.
Mr Thorpe, 46, will submit to the new hair-do at the hands of Stacey Evans of Village Hair, in front of his congregation during the 10.30am service in the Memorial Hall on Sunday, February 8.

He hopes that his initiative will raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
His cousin Michelle died last year of the disease, aged 26. Mr Thorpe took her cremation service and was struck by the huge number of young mourners who also had cystic fibrosis.
He said: "It seemed like there were 300 other CF youngsters there, all with a short life expectancy and I wondered what I could do to help."
Mr Thorpe said that Michelle's parents plan to come down from Manchester for the service on February 8 and that everyone is welcome to attend.
"It gives a Christian perspective on how we can help people in practical ways," he said.
Anyone wanting to sponsor Mr Thorpe can obtain a sponsorship form via the Rock website (www.rockcsg.org) or by calling 01494 870 770.
