Shop Talk: All Dressed Up

Posted by Greg Burns on Feb 26, 09 10:57 AM in People

CSG-ShopTalk.jpgDiana Penrose owns All Dressed Up in Chalfont St Giles. She has run the shop in the High Street for six and a half years having previously operated from her home. She talked to us about the business.

Why did you open a shop after running the business from home?
My house was becoming very cluttered up with fancy dress costumes and it was becoming a pain so I decided to open it as a shop. Since then we have expanded into areas that we did not cover before. For example, if someone is having a fancy dress party we can come out and decorate the venue in the style of a casino or a disco or whatever it is they are after.

How do people find out about you?
Mostly from word of mouth. I don't advertise very much, but people hear about the shop from their friends who have been here before. People are always surprised by the amount of items that we have here and often comment that it is like an Aladdin's Cave of fancy dress costumes.

What is currently you most popular costume?
70s disco outfits have been very popular ever since Mamma Mia came out. It is often the case that when a big film comes out, costumes in that style are suddenly very popular.

Do you have any particular favourite outfits that you sell?
I particularly like the medieval things that we do. I really think they're great, but I like loads of different things in here. The 70s stuff looks fantastic, especially because of the big platform boots that we stock.

We'd like to hear from you.
