New cycle path could link villages

A NEW cycle path could soon be put in place between Chalfont St Peter and St Giles if residents agree that they want it.
Buckinghamshire County Council (BCC) has sent out a letter to people living near to Narcot Lane, which links the two villages, asking for their views on the subject.

It is hoped that if built, the new path will encourage people, especially students at the Chalfonts Community College, to cycle rather than rely on their cars.
The letter, which was sent out on October 15, marks the beginning of a six week consultation on the issue, during which residents are being encouraged to make their views on the new path know to BCC.
In the letter, Lee Stevens, team leader for cycling and walking at BCC, said: "BCC and partners have developed a proposal to provide a shared use cycle way connecting the villages of Chalfont St Giles and Chalfont St Peter along Narcot Lane.
"The route will primarily provide a safe and sustainable alternative for students to get to the Chalfonts Community College but is also expected to attract other users.
"Recognising the rural nature of this area, we propose to use minimal required signing to reduce the street clutter and general impact on the landscape.
"The crossings proposed in the scheme not only facilitate the safe movement of cyclists and pedestrians along Narcot Lane, but can help to reduce traffic speeds on the road."
The new path will be funded by a number of different sources, including parish, district and county councils as well as some businesses.
