Tory takes on conference challenge

A CONSERVATIVE Party Member who dreamed of chairing its conference for more than two decades has fulfilled her ambition.
Emma Pidding took on the prestigious role of opening and closing the event in front of the party faithful last week in Manchester.
Miss Pidding, 43, of Dodds Lane, Chalfont St Giles, wanted to chair the party conference after first visiting it 23 years ago.

Earlier this year the marketing and events manager, who is also a former Chiltern District Councillor, was selected as President of the Conservative Convention.
Miss Pidding, who addressed the 11,000 in attendance, said: "It was a very enjoyable week. Everybody knows there's an awful lot of work to be done and there was no complacency."
The activist, who moved from Amersham to the village three years ago and shares a home with partner and Buckinghamshire County Councillor Tim Butcher, said: "A lot of the talk was about small businesses, which is something very relevant to the Chesham and Amersham constituency. We were talking about what we can do to get them all the help they can get in these particular times.
"And also the need to make sure planning issues are thought through very carefully - building homes but making sure we are protecting the Green Belt."
Around 20 members from the Chesham and Amersham Association joined their former chairman Miss Pidding at the event.
She told the Examiner her next priority is 'the fight for the general election'. She added: "For the next seven months I will be giving as much time and support to the marginal seats, which we need to win if we are to form a government."
Chesham and Amersham MP Cheryl Gillan, who is Shadow Welsh Secretary, also addressed the conference on Thursday, speaking about the future of the Union.
