AN AUTHOR from Chalfont St Giles who died suddenly last year has had her first novel published.
Katie Roy, unexpectedly died in February 2009, after collapsing at her home in the village.

ANN Widdecombe MP lent her support to the South Bucks Hospice at its fundraising lunch.
Ms Widdecombe did a book signing of her four novels when she visited the event at Harewood Downs Golf Club, Chalfont St Giles.

A CHALFONT St Giles parish councillor has signed up for Iain Rennie Hospice at Home's Goodnight Walk.
Michael Stannard will be one of 100 men taking part in the event at midnight on June 6, which is designed to raise funds for the charity.

Sovereign the shire horse donned a red nose to the delight of school children visiting the museum in Gorelands Lane.
The large nose was made especially for Sovereign by staff at the centre to allow him to join in with the fun.

Am-Mentoring-Service.jpgA mentoring service is doing great work with young people in the Chilterns.
And now the service, a registered charity called The Chiltern Lighthouse, is holding a special one off event in a bid to recruit volunteer mentors.
The event will take place on Saturday, February 28, at The Garden Room, School Lane, Chalfont St Giles, when principals of the charity will be on hand to give a clear insight into the work envisaged. The day's activities will take place from 12.45pm until 5pm.

Chalfont St Giles Lent lunches

Chalfont St Giles will be hosting a series of Lent lunches starting on Friday.
They will run for six weeks in the Reading Room on Fridays from 11.30am-2pm. There will be a selection of soups with cheese, bread and tea of coffee. Funds raised from the lunches will go towards supporting to missionary families from Chalfont St Giles who work with drug addicts to try and rebuild families.

Charity table top sale

A table top sale with proceeds going to the village-based charity Rope will be held on Saturday (Feb 14).
The event, from 10am until 12 pm, will take place at the reading room in the village.

CSG-Co-op-Hearing.jpgThe new manager of the Co-operative in Chalfont St Giles was given a surprise on Tuesday when he and his staff were asked to report for work in their pyjamas.
Haydn Scarlett, 24, took up his new role at the store on Saturday, January 24, only to discover that Tuesday was not so much 'dress down' day as 'undress day'.
Mr Scarlett and his team took part in a 'wake-up call' sounded by the Royal National Institute of the Deaf (RNID), which is the national Co-op's charity of the year for 2009.

CSG-Lamb.jpgA Chalfont St Giles parish councillor who admits to being "well past retirement age" has just returned from a three-week trek across the jungles and mountains of Rwanda in search of gorillas.
Austrian-born Karoline Lamb of Bottrells Lane could not persuade any friends to join her. Instead, she planned her own itinerary and joined an organised tour to the gorillas' habitat, near the border with Congo.

People have been known to do some wacky things in the name of religion and the Reverend Ian Thorpe is no exception.
The pastor of the Rock Church in Chalfont St Giles has agreed to have his head shaved for charity during a Sunday service.
Mr Thorpe, 46, will submit to the new hair-do at the hands of Stacey Evans of Village Hair, in front of his congregation during the 10.30am service in the Memorial Hall on Sunday, February 8.
